PPS FILM (TORAY)

“Torelina” (biaxially-oriented PPS film) is a new high-performance engineering plastic film developed by Toray Industries, Inc. As far back as 1972, Toray recognized the outstanding properties of PPS, such as nonflammability, high resistance to heat and chemicals, and superb electrical properties. Subsequently, Toray succeeded in the invention of a new high-performance PPS film and applied for the basic patents for this film. Many patents have been filed, with the basic patents already having been obtained in major countries throughout the world. In cooperation with Phillips Petroleum Company, Toray developed a biaxially oriented PPS film relying heavily on the Company’s renowned polymerization and filmmaking technologies. The result was the successful test operation of this film’s production plant in early 1987, to be followed by full-scale production by the end of 1987.

Thermx PCT Polyesters

Eastman Thermx polyesters for the E/E and Automotive markets are based on poly (cyclohexylenedimethylene ) terephthalate (PCT), a high-temperature polyester similar to PBT and PET in many respects, but possesses higher heat resistance.

CHARACTERISTICS

1. Long-term heat resistance
2. Surface mount and reflow soldering compatible
3. Superior value
4. Shrinkage similar to PBT and PA
5. Flash-free processing
6. Low moisture absorption
7. Chemical resistance to auto fluids and printed circuit board (PCB) cleaning chemicals

VALOX Thermoplastic Polyester PBT

VALOX is making progress to meet meeds of markets with a wide selection of grades. With polybutyleneterephthalate (PBT) obtained by condensation polymerization of dimethylterephthalate (DMT) and 1-4-butanediol (1.4BD) as the main line, it now has polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin and polycyclohexanedimethyleneterephthalate (PCT) resin.

CHARACTERISTICS

1. Excellent chemical and oil resistance
2. Low surface friction resistance and high abrasion resistance
3. Outstanding fatigue resistance
4. Very high heat resistance
5. Excellent dimensional stability with very little warp in service
6. Low water absorption rate and little degradation of mechanical and electrical properties

GENESTAR (PA9T)

GENESTAR, developed by Kuraray Co., Ltd., is a new heat-resistant polyamide, consisting of terephthalic acid and nonanediamine. GENESTAR is semi-aromatic polyamide with a unique chemical structure, made up of an aromatic core and a long hydrocarbon chain. It shows greater heat resistance and lower water absorption than PA46 and PA6T, and excellent dimensional stability, making it ideal for use as an SMT material. GENESTAR retains its strength and hardness at high temperatures, offering outstanding weld strength and recyclability, and balanced performance as an SMT material.

CHARACTERISTICS

1. Low water absorption: GENESTAR shows the lowest water absorption of any polyamide, and is virtually free from dimensional change or degeneration of mechanical properties due to water absorption.

2. Outstanding heat resistance: A high melting point (306 ?) and low water absorbency prevent blistering during reflow soldering. Its lead-free composition also makes GENESTAR suitable for high-temperature soldering.

3. Outstanding moldability: GENESTAR’s high fluidity allows the molding of thin-walled shapes. Its rapid crystallization properties reduce cooling time and allow high-cycle molding. GENESTAR also gives off fewer gases than other heat-resistant polyamides, helping to keep molds clean and prolong mold life.

“SUMIKASUPER” LCP (LIQUID CRYSTAL POLYESTER)

SUMIKASUPER LCP is thermo tropic liquid crystalline polyester, showing the highest heat resistance among engineering plastics. Liquid crystalline polymer is characterized by that it becomes liquid crystal, as its name suggests, under the molten state Consequently, it exhibits a unique phenomenon, which is not found with other normal crystalline polymers. The liquid crystalline polymer is different from ordinary crystalline resins, and has the rigid molecular chains, which form the polydomain without causing entanglement even under the molten condition. It moves and flows under low shearing strength and is orientated toward the flow direction in fully stretched condition.

CHARACTERISTICS

1. High strength and high modulus
2. High flowability: thin-wall, high filling
3. Low mold shrinkage
4. Low coefficient of thermal linear expansion
5. Fewer flashes
6. Excellent damping properties
